2021 - THE PROBLEM COMPOSING YEAR IN REVIEW
The Unofficial World Championship Checker Problem Composing Contests had a sorry start in 2021. The voting machine on another web site died in February and was not fixed in time for a contest in April. So the first contest was not held until June, allowing time for a total of only four contests, all at this web site.
The contest themes in 2021 were Deferred Triples, Pure 6-Star Sextuples, Kingless Strokes, and Compound Strokes with Afterplay.
Bill Salot and the late Roy Little won the first two contests. Ed Atkinson won the last two, making him Problemist of the Year. It was Ed’s 4th such title only one behind Roy Little, whose legacy of unpublished problems will allow him to continue competing from up yonder through 2022.
If you find it difficult to travel to checker tournaments, and if you enjoy checker problems, please consider competing from home as a checker problem composer at zero cost. To get started, send your original, unpublished problems or questions to the address below the diagrams in any of these problem contests.
The contest statistics for 2021 showed a drop in voters and visitors.
