It was a close race between strategic, winning, non-strokes, resulting in a 2-way tie that almost went 3- ways.
First place was split between Derby Day, by the late Ed Atkinson, and *****************, by Jim Loy, each with 3 votes. Derby Day was a horse race with trouble at the gate and a photo finish that attracted votes from George Hay and new voter Igor Martynov (Germany). Lloyd Gordon (Canada) voted for *****************, which set a new record for these contests. Its 17 consecutive star moves broke the record set by John Acker’s 15 star, D-Day, which won Contest 7 back in October 2012. In a fast-closing 3 rd place, with 2 votes, was All Together Now, by the late Roy Little. Its clever winning finish overcame a near escape. It drew votes from Don Myles and Liam Stephens (Ireland). Bridge Breaker, by Bill Salot, trailed with no votes.
Contest 65 had 77 visitors, 8 of whom voted.
The International Voters’ Ladder has tightened as follows:
1. Don Myles, 6 wins in 10 tries (60%)
2. Liam Stephens (Ireland), 18 wins in 32 tries (56.2%)
3. Kathy Wirthwein, 15 wins in 27 tries (55.6%)

6. Lloyd Gordon (Canada), 13 wins in 28 tries (46%)

9. Gary Ellison, 4 wins in 13 tries (31%)
Eighteen (18) others have either picked fewer than 31% winners or voted in fewer than 9 contests.
Some say sensational strokes impress. Others instead insist that sustained strings of starry strategy are unsurpassed for subtlety. Check out the fascinating extended animations of these four charming wins the hard way, without benefit of a big stroke. Your holiday vote for the one you like best will be appreciated. If you divulge your vote via e-mail to the address below the diagrams, we’ll compare your skills on the free International Ladder of voters that accompany the results of every contest.
