Backlogged contest entries from recently deceased composers continue to dominate. The 1st winner of 2023 is Dark Shadow, featuring a lengthy delayed stinger by the late Ed Atkinson. It gathered 6 votes, including those by George Hay, Don Myles, and Wilma Wolverton. In 2nd place with 4 votes was Twist and Shout, by the late Roy Little. Lloyd Gordon (Canada) voted for it, saying it “seems the trickiest”. Clear Cut, by Bill Salot, was 3rd with one vote. Last with no votes was A Nother, by Jim Loy. It was perhaps too subtle.
The International Voters’ Ladder now stands as follows (Changes are in italics):
1. Don Myles, 7 wins in 11 tries (64%)
2. Liam Stephens (Ireland), 18 wins in 32 tries (56.2%)
3. George Hay, 19 wins in 34 tries (55.9%)
4. Kathy Wirthwein, 15 wins in 27 tries (55.6%)
5. Gene Ellison, 11 wins in 23 tries (48%)
6. Wilma Wolverton, 6 wins in 13 tries (46%)
7. Lloyd Gordon (Canada), 13 wins in 29 tries (45%)
8. Slava Gorin (Russia), 11 wins in 26 tries (42%)
9. Gary Ellison, 4 wins in 13 tries (31%)
Eighteen (18) others have either picked fewer than 31% winners or voted in fewer than 9 contests.
As in the preceding contest, these original, unpublished, strategic dandies are non-strokes, although a shot may ring out occasionally during a wild "chase."
You are invited to see them all animated. The most popular entry will be decided by the votes of website visitors like you. Your vote will also let you see immediately how others are voting. If you choose to e-mail Bill Salot wjsalot@comcast.net, disclosing how you voted, you will be put on the International Voters' Ladder to determine who the best winner-picker is. Voters on the upper rungs of the ladder are published with the results of each contest.
