Unofficial World Championship Checker Problem Composing Contest #24 Results Roy Little won again; 4th time in the last 5 contests (one was a tie for first place). Roy's "Reach Out" packed the most sparkle into the shortest "chase" with a sudden and decisive finale. It received more votes (9) than the other 3 excellent chase entries combined. Roy has his competitors scratching their heads. Bill Salot's "Scatter" was 2nd with 4 votes; Jim Loy's "Cattle Drive" was 3rd with 3 votes; Ed Atkinson's "Chasing Foxes" trailed with 1 vote. The contest had 278 visitors. Here is how the contest was introduced: CHASE PROBLEMS Please note the new contest problem theme: When a lion chases a straggling antelope, sometimes the big cat wins; sometimes the little deer escapes or is saved by its brethren. Thankfully, the chases in this contest play out on a checkerboard where no blood is spilled. Don't be fooled! There are no giant strokes here; nothing more than an occasional double jump with tutorial timing and titillating tactics. Witness the cunning of outnumbered lions on defense in one case and the frustrating failures of individual lion kings in each of the other cases, all on animated diagrams. Then please cast your vote for the one that impresses you most. We need it. Another world championship is at stake! |
